Job Title: Senior Accountant

Reports To: Operations Controller

Basic Function

The Senior Accountant's responsibilities include generating accurate and timely financial statements and supporting schedules in compliance with International Financial Reporting Standards, maintaining the general ledger, performing account reconciliations, assisting with forecasting/budgeting processes and audit requests and performing other accounting duties as assigned while enforcing and adhering to strong internal controls.

Responsibilities

  • Play key role in monthly close process: Prepare vast majority of all required journal entries and complete monthly review and analysis of the financials. Identify variances against forecasted and budgeted amounts and provide explanations for material variances to Operations Controller.
  • Maintain general ledger in Microsoft Dynamics Great Plains and prepare monthly account reconciliations, ensuring that all accounts are properly reconciled in a timely manner.
  • Review all AP data entry batches for completeness and accuracy and post in general ledger.
  • Review and post daily receipts of goods and services that feed directly into Great Plains from the CMMS.
  • Manage fixed asset and project accounting, including recording the cost of new assets, recording monthly depreciation, accounting for dispositions and tracking capital project spend.
  • Cross train with AP/AR Accountant and assist with Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable functions as needed.
  • Promote and assist with process improvement and automation to the extent possible.
  • Assist with documentation and enforcement of company policies and internal controls.
  • Assist with the financial quarterly forecast and annual budget processes as needed.
  • Assist with internal and external audit requests as needed.
  • Assist with various finance related projects and other duties as needed.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

None.

EDUCATION/TRAINING

BA or BS in Accounting/Finance. CPA or CMA a plus. Must have a valid Colorado driver's license.

EXPERIENCE

  • 5+ years of combined work experience in industry accounting.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Must be eligible to work in the U.S., successfully pass a pre-employment background check, drug test and credit check.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Knowledge of:

  • SOX and internal controls experience.
  • Experience in ERP System software a must; Microsoft Dynamics Great Plains a plus.
  • Strong knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP); knowledge of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) a plus.

Skill in:

  • Accuracy and strong attention to detail.
  • Organizing work, setting priorities, meeting critical deadlines and following up assignments independently.
  • Effective verbal and written communication with individuals from many different disciplines with varying degrees of financial experience.
  • Data analysis to assist management with understanding financial results and to help make informed business decisions.
  • Working cooperatively and collaboratively with all levels of employees, management and external agencies to maximize performance, creativity, problem solving and results.
  • Taking initiative and being able to propose alternate strategies to meet company needs.
  • Using a PC with proficiency in document/file management, word-processing, database management, email and Internet browser usage.

  • Simple Office Equipment; equipment requiring involved set up, adjustments and operational procedures (e.g. personal computer, scanners and digital copier, printer).
  • Software: MS Office (Excel, Word, Outlook), Adobe, Microsoft Dynamics GP

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL ABILITIES

  • While performing the essential functions of the job, the employee is frequently required to walk, talk or hear. Employee is required to sit, stand and lift or move up to 25 pounds.
  • Frequently required to use close and distant vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • Work is performed in an indoor environment.
